My planned trip to Mall of America is now a failure, no one wants to buy plane tickets, i dont blame, neither did I, so instead we are gonna go to the beach! Fun for them...I guess but umm there is a beach a couple of minutes away, so not so much for me, oh well they live in New York and never get to see a real ocean beach, just lake ones. So we might road trip down to Deleware, one of my friends said she knows a hip little beach town. If you know of any ideas for a fun road trip from Syracuse, New York then please tell me.

So Many Tests!
So I just finished my last test for today, thats relieving. I had an oceanography tests this morning and a Psych test a couple of hours ago, tuesdays are my longest days and adding two tests to it just makes it even more stressful. Thankfully i am done and even more happy to announce that the Psych questions that i had no clue and guessed were, strangely, almost all correct. I didnt study as much for the Psych one since it really doesnt mean as much to me as the Oceanography test, i studied two days prior, whereas Psych, only a couple hours prior. I love how all my test dates always coincide, i think professors collaborate and make sure that they are near each other.
Animal Research
I love animals, I think they are amazing, and therefore I really want to do animal research. I obviously will take a stance against animal research. Im not sure which essay to choose though. The easier route would be to do the one essay about polio research and argue against some of her points, but i also want to talk about some of the issues that Jane Goodall brings up, like alternatives. Since Goodall doesnt cover much in the essay, i think i am going to do the Polio one. I can easily argue some of her points.

Veggie in America
I have really been slacking lately in my blogs. I guess its since the end of the semester is sooo near. Yes!! I cant wait for summer, my friends have all these thigs we are planning to do. Chances are, like it always goes down, we will actually pursue less than twenty percent of what was on our list. Big ambitions, but no dilligence. We are all just a bunch of lazy slackers i guess.
Well one of our "a
mbitions" is to take a road trip to the Mall of America, the biggest mall in the world. We are trying to plan it out right now, but there are so many factors when everyone each has to pay for themselves, but i seriously think, we will end up doing this. So far the hardest thing about organizing it, is figuring out the transportation, flying seems pointless and not worth it, so i think we are leaning toward renting a coach bus. Either way, it should be a lot of fun.

Football Team? No Way
Does UNCW need a football team? No of course we dont need one, adminstrators at UNCW have been doing just fine for years without dealing with the hassles an added sport would bring. Besides costing huge amounts of money to build a football stadium, there is already enough construction on campus, to add to that would drive current students (myself included) insane. Dont get me wrong, the construction will result in an even more aesthetically pleasing campus, but the noise pollution it brings can sometimes be overwhelming. Also, to build a stadium, there need to be a place to put it, the sports area seems a little crowded to me, i wouldnt know where to begin to look.
Like i said before, financially, i dont think football is the right thing to do right now, we need to focus more on academics rather than sports. Clean Room
This weekend was a beautiful weekend...if you love rain! Yes, this weekend was not one of the better ones in the time of been in North Carolina. Rain, rain, and more rain, thats what the weekend was like. I even hear some thunder as im writing this. Although, the rain took a break for a while saturday night, and became more like a light mist. I took advantage of this and went to this awesome thai restaurant. Since we dont have a car, we had to walk, but it is well worth it in the end. The food is really good, I ordered pad tsee eww (im pretty sure thats how you spell it) and my friend ordered soup served in what they called a volcano pot. This pot was amazing, it literally looked like a volcano and when it was served to us, fire was coming out of the middle through a metal spout and then there was soup all around that.
Ever since coming to college, I have really been brushing up on my cultural side. I have eaten both mongolian and thai food, the "real" food. By "real," I mean that the food was from and made by the recipients of that country, not made to impersonate it. Both the Mongolian and Thai foos was really good, although the origins of the food are similar each has its own eclectic taste. Curry is a food that made an impact heavily on most asian cuisine. I, myself, am not fond of curry, its too spicy for me, after all it is spices made into soup.
After waking up to a stomach full of asian food, I decided my room neaded to be cleaned. I vacuumed it about an hour ago, and the floors were absolutely disgusting. The vacuum I have is not one of the best, but it is still efficient. I call it the Devil, since its brand name is Dirt Devil. While vacuuming, I noticed it wasnt picking up the obvious stuff on the carpet, and it was annoying me. So, instead, I tried to use the small tube like thing that you use to get corners on the whole carpet. It was demanding but was working until that got clogged by mass amounts of hair...yeah I know thats disgusting. I had to pick it out with my hands and throw it away. Then I saw the other part that wasnt working as well and figured out why it wasnt picking the dirt up...it was also clogged. So then it took me a good five minutes to maneuver the dirt out of the tube. After I was succesful with that, I really got going with my cleaning and now the carpet looks stunning. I can now walk on my carpet with my socks again, all thanks to Devil. =)

SEX..with mom and dad???
Alright im really sorry this blog is so late, i just out it off and procrastinated right into the next week...Anyway, im watching MTV at around four pm and Sex...With Mom and Dad is the show that is on. I surfed the tv channels a little bit before going back to this channel, i never really liked this show. But the tv options at this time are really limited, back in New York, Ellen is on at four but its not so here. So MTV is doing this new afternoons things which i am all for because it said one of the "new" shows is Room Raiders, which i LOVED. It was hilarious when it was airing probably when i was around fourteen, fifteen or sixteen.
Well this Sex episode is about a girl who had sex with one of her dads co-workers and that really roughed up their relationship. Dr. Drew is the name of the clinical pychiatrist who is helping them get through. This is a touchy feely episode, as opposed to the normal ones where the parent is completely surprised about how much their child has had sex. At one of the confessionals, the dad said that he had sex at thirteen with his best friends sister who was twenty one, now thats disturbing, not to mention..RAPE!
The beginning of the show, shows old clips of black and white tv shows where they talk about sexual issues, its awkward. The whole show is awkward, i dont like it, but thats just my opinion. It must have decent ratings or else they would have cancelled it.

I think i want to write my second paper on a specific show on the travel channel or discovery channel, not really sure which show yet, and a travel/nature magazine most likely national geographic, almost positive on that. The Soothing Sim Song
I wanted to write about this song, Life in Technicolor by Coldplay, after i just recently listened to it when walking home from my late night psychology class. I had completely forgotten that I even had it on my iPod. Apparently there are two versions of this song as I found out on Youtube and the one without lyrics is the one I prefer much better. I find this song so soothing just to listen to, although its short it makes me think of all sorts of things. As I listen it sparks memories of me playing Sims, it just seems like a "Sim Song" if you know what i mean. "Sims Songs" are classified, in my terms, as any song that will just soothe you as you play the game so as to allow you to just sit there and play and not even recognize that you have been playing for almost four hours. They are almost hypnotizing, but give you that good feeling like you can do anything, I dont know, its hard to explain, I hope you can understand what im trying to say.
With that said, I am pleased to hear that a new Sims will be coming out soon. Not one of those expansion pack things, but a whole other, newly designed and edited version of Sims. Im excited to see what it is like, maybe Life in Technicolor will be on it.

Environmental Savy
After searching the web for some interesting environmental websites, I found one whos purpose was especially important in my life, not that the other environmental websites arent important. The site: http://www.glu.org/, which is called Great Lakes United/ Union St. Laurent Grand Lacs (French) is an international coaltion from Canada, US and some First Nation Tribes who are dedicated to preserving the Great Lakes and the St. Laurence River. The Great Lakes and the River are north eastern bodies of water which are intertwined with Canada in addition to the US. Most of these waters are both US and Canadian waters, with international lines somewhere along the middle based on postions of the waters.
I chose this website because i go to a camp on the St. Lawrence River, also called Thousand Islands within limits, and this place is amazing. The landscaping all around is absolutely breathtaking. It is a huge river cut in half by the Canadian and US international line with thousands, no pun intended, of islands scattered everywhere you turn. You are allowed to cross this line and every year we go to Canada via a town called Ganonaque. I thinkwe do it semi-illegally but i wont get into that. Its tradition and I will remember doing this my entire life.
Over the years, we were told stories of ways that the river conservation is going downhill, whether due to foreign species like gobies invading the habitat and destroying the precious ecosystem, or just leaks of chemical contaminants. All of which is covered through the website. The goal as I stated earlier, is to preserve and restore this area, the group, Great Lakes United also, has the power to develop and promote policies protecting the species and people of the region.
I believe that these goals are effectively communicated and pursued through both in depth articles about the problems associated with certain aspects and possible solutions for them, and action plans for these problems. The website also informs you of past regulations of the government and has so much more infromation that the public could read to be informed of what is going on with the Great Lakes.

I Hear Ya, "Word"
I have never really payed attention to what words I commonly use in every day language, but if you think about it, everyone really does speak (or write/text) in a way that defines them. Everyone knows Paris Hiltons carch phrase, "thats hot." So what is mine? I really didnt know what word i used a lot, I noticed that one "word" in particular...well its actually not really a word but phrase or language of expression I guess..I dont know. The word is "haha," I noticed this when i was reading through my texts. Now dont get me wrong, I dont go walking around saying "haha" in my daily conversations. Its just in my texts.
I use haha a lot because most of the time my texts arent serious conversations, just light silly ones. Instead of using "lol" (laugh out loud... why did i put that? Who doesnt know that?!, jic), i would prefer to use haha. Lol is used so much and its really starting to get old. I use it sometimes when i say haha way too much but maybe i will make my own abbreviations for it. How about hh? No maybe not. So, my word is haha and thats all there is to it haha.

Ground Hogs Day
I am writing this due to the fact that I may be behind just a bit in blogging. I am gonna try to do this in ten minutes because Ellen is on at eleven. As you all know, I am from New York and the primetime television schedule is the same because, NC and NY are on the east coast...there is a little geography lesson if you didnt know. Anyway, becasue of this i assumed that all of the the schedule for what is on and when would be the same, well i was wrong. So, i had to figure out when shows i liked to watch during the day were on and what channels. Channels are different but the stations (not sure the correct way to put it but like ABC and NBC) are the same. So Ellen which is normally on at four in NY is on at eleven here, it seemed weird at first but now i am getting used to it.
I started watching Ellen when my friends back at home in my neighborhood always watched since it was a funny talk show. Now we have something to stay connected through while we are hundreds of miles away.
I just got back from this Psychology experiment, where i was the subject. I am not allowed to talk about what was on the test but it basically was a computer test on how i matched certain stimuli before or after a set number or letter. That part is okay to say, i am interested to find out what they are really testing becouse, as you all know, tests like that always have a hidden primary objective that the subject is not allowed to know.
Ell is on but i will continue to write. The superbowl is over and i was rooting for the Cardinals for some reason, i didnt really care to be honest. I was only watching for the commercials, my favorite was the LMAO one...i wonder what i did when i saw.
AND ellen just told me its Groundhogs Day which according to wikipedia means that we will have winter for six more weeks since the ground hog can see its shadow. Good thing too because i want to go skiing (snow skiing of course) before the winter ends on our spring break since im going back to New York. Yessss i cant wait.

Response to Rainy Mountain
The method of development in the first paragraph is a descriptive approach to an area of nature, Rainy Mountain, in which Momaday, his ancestors, and especially his grandmother deeply value. Rainy Mountain is where all his Kiowan ancestors originated and made it through the hardships of life. Home is where the heart is and this mountain was where his grandmothers, along with all the other Kiowan Native Americans, heart was set on.
"Transported so in the dancing light among the shadows of her room, she seemed beyond the reach of time," (pg. 817 paragraph 10) is a very powerful sensory statement in which his grandmother, in the Momadays' perception, is remembered in a meditative state of prayer in which she is in spirit inspired by the power and her experiences of Rocky Mountain.
One statement "The sun is at home on the plains. Precisely there does it have the certain character of a god," was written to express the the Kiowas strong feelings for how much they will yearn the lands of their origin. After being drawn away from their home, they are understanding and realizing how special that land was and will be to them in the future.
A symbolic statement located on pg. 818 just before tha last paragraph said "It had gone there, I thought, to live and die, for there, of all places, was its small definition made whole and eternal." This is describing a small, unimportant grasshopper being significantly enhanced in importance by standing in front of a moon completely overtaking Momadays view of the night sky. He says this to symbolize the meager existence of one person, Momadays Grandmother, and the huge impact that she has on him with her memories and stories brought to true life by the power of the Rainy Mountain in where she was buried.

The Value of America
Todays culture is based around going green and you see it everywhere you turn. You cant get away from green and I think the vitamin waters caption that i am drinking as i write this says it best "Green is the new black." By the way, pink is the best, kiwi strawberry. I have for one have no problem with this and as Chief Seattle said we would be extinct soon enough I dont understand why we arent. There are so many people on this planet and to think about how much waste we generate and how much resources we engulf, I cant comprehend how we managed to keep on kickin this long.
Our values our taught to us by our elders, but now we have to think about the world around us in a new more innnovative way, so that we can continue to live on this earth. Like its been said many times before, "We are the future," and unless we do something about we are gone, and therefore no future. I, for one, support going green 100% and as these issues become more important to us, I believe that kids are stepping up to the challenge. Highschoolers, in my opinion, are far more involved with world affairs now than they ever have been. With this said, education is much more valued now, since it may be vital for our survival. We want to learn, we want to know and we want to be able to contribute to the Earth so it can support our ways just a little longer. (Or at least till the world ends by unrelated causes like metors slamming us in 2012.)
With this said, American Values may have been destructive in the past to get ahead, but we are learning to cope with the natural beauty around us. And there will always be people who value knowledge as much as Lopez, and hopefully, today the majority of humans, im not saying all, can respect our planets natural history and learn by it. On a side note, the way Lopez writes is like ADD (Attention Devicit Disorder) in writing but i like it.

Like i said in the blog before this, I am in an English class, and one of the assignments happens to be: to find interesting blogs out in the wide world of the web. Yeah, well I automatically went to Google of course (WHO wouldnt) to search for some blogs and knew "blogs" wouldnt have been enough so, instead, typed in marine biology blogs and happened to find a blog that goes by the name of MarineBio Blog. For those of you who dont know, I love fish and thats why i typed that in. This, coincidentally, was from a website that i am a member of and use its awesome pictures as wallpapers for my laptop. After all this time, I never knew that the website put out such a blog and was flabbergasted. The url is marinebio.org/blog.
The principal blog editor, Joni Lawrence, is a talented blogger, and the blog offers a wide variety of information. The key motives for this blog are to increase awareness about our wonderful blue planet...the ocean, and, in doing so, hopefully, get readers and followers to participate in marine conservation. Yes, yes, yes, its always about marine conservation with these kinds of organizations but this blog offers something else, maybe its the charm she puts into her posts when giving us fish recipes.
The url for the next blog i found was joeydevilla.com. I found this one by simply googling interesting blogs which brought me ironically to a blog which finds interesting blogs. And this blog was nothing less than interesting. The editor or author of the blogs' name is Joey Devilla and its called Adventures of Accordion Guy in the Twenty First Century. Joey just hapens to be an accrodion player and a great outlook on life. He explains, in one of his sidebars, the basic reason for wrting his blog is to entertain readers of events happening in his life by putting them in a comical perspective. Joey specifically says "We then made a solemn vow to live the kind of life that got high ratings." In a sense, the goal of his blog is not only to entertain, but also to inform. Many of his entries are about wolrd affairs or local events from his hometown and often twists the information so the reader will learn but still want to continue reading to see his perspective. I encourage you to visit this blog if you dont want to see the marine bio one, its worth a visit.

Drizzly Day on Campus
So, I finally am writing my first blog for English 101. I was all excited when I saw that you could change the font, however, was quickly disappointed by the insufficeint choices given -_- That may sound weird to some but ever since I was first intoduced to the website, DaFont.com, I always go there immediately whenever assigned creative writing with no restrictions, like this assignment.
I am writing this while watching one of my favorite Travel Channel shows (you may find me talking a lot about that channel in the future along with Discovery Channel), Samantha Brown. She, basically, has the best job in the world and travels to every place imaginable, I find her sense of dry humor hilarious... She has the kind of job I would dream of having however taking place on the oceans of the planet. For those who dont know, I imagine everyone, I am majoring in Marine Biology and that is why i chose UNCW.
My transition on to UNCW campus has gone more smoothly than expected and am just starting to get the hang of things. The food on campus is great, quite the opposite of what my family and friends back in New York had expected, especially since I am a vegetarian. Yet i still find food, though, may it not be healthy, I find it consisting mainly of pizza. I also love the fact that I can get all my homework done during the day in between classes, that is a definite lifesaver.
